3D Printed Water Pump: 3D Printing is a cutting edge manufacturing technology. Fused filament fabrication or FDM based 3D printing is more popular. Prototyping is very easy using 3D printing. Therefore, in this article we are going to make a prototype of small water pump using 3-6V 2000 RPM small DC motor.

However, various standard water pumps are available in the market, but sometimes we may need a customized water pump for some application in our project. In such cases, a 3D Printed Water Pump is the best option. Using 3D printing we can make a customized size and capacity of water pump.
Water Pump
A water pump is a mechanical device used to move water from one place to another. There are several types of water pumps, including:
- Centrifugal pumps: These pumps use centrifugal force to move water. They are commonly used in household applications, irrigation systems, and industrial processes.
- Submersible pumps: These pumps are submerged in the water they are pumping and are often used in wells, boreholes, and sewage systems.
- Diaphragm pumps: These pumps use a diaphragm to move water. They are often used in applications where a constant flow rate is required, such as in chemical processing plants.
- Gear pumps: These pumps use gears to move water. They are often used in applications where a high-pressure output is required, such as in hydraulic systems.
Water pumps have a wide range of applications, including:

3D Printing the Parts
Housing of the pump is 3D printed using PLA material through FDM technology based 3D printer. For the 3D printing 3D CAD model is prepared and converted into STL file. Process parameters of 3D printing were set on the Ultimaker Cura and then parts were 3D printed.
Assembly and Working – 3D Printed Water Pump
3D printed parts were collected and assembled. The super glue is used to close the housing of the water pump. After assembly of all 3D printed parts and DC motor, motor is connected to 9V DC battery. The working of the developed water pump is then demonstrated by pumping the water from a small bowl. The working of the 3D printed water pump is shown in video and image given below.
